Crisis Intervention

Crisis intervention is a way for friends and family members of someone suffering from drug addiction or alcoholism to express their concerns and get them to agree to treatment in an addiction treatment program or facility.  All kinds of crisis interventions are means to help people to face and get through traumatic life events.   In the case of addiction crisis interventions Lakeview Health Systems recommends that you involve an experienced, professional interventionist. For immediate professional addiction crisis intervention help call us toll-free at 1-800-657-4357.

The fundamentals of crisis interventions are:

  • Providing information, activities and structure to move past the crisis
  • Increasing the awareness of the negative behavioral impact on one’s self and others
  • Encouraging the individual in crisis to discover their own potential for making right decisions and actions to improve the quality of their lives
  • To have self-understanding of deep intentions, relationships and actions
  • To create necessary structure and beneficial coping skills
  • To challenge unrealistic expectations and irrational beliefs
  • To break from the cycle of addictive behavior
  • To create a healthy temporary relationship and foster independence
  • To provide emotional support and empowerment to help an individual to face their fears and emotional pain

Addiction Crisis Interventions

A professional addiction crisis interventionist will help put together a structured intervention and group of an average of 3-6 people who are significantly related to the individual in crisis.  All facets will be planned in advance and participants will be prepared for what to expect.  Scripts or lists are often used for better effectiveness and to help keep emotions under control.

Additional preparation for the addiction crisis intervention should include:

  • Cooperation from an addiction treatment center such as Lakeview Health Systems to be prepared to admit the individual in need of an inpatient addiction treatment program following the intervention
  • Decisions made about consequences for the individual if they refuse treatment

For additional help or information regarding addiction crisis intervention please contact our professional staff 24/7 at our toll-free number: 1-800-657-4357.  All calls are strictly confidential.
