Drug Detox
The First Step to Reclaiming Your Life is Detox
You have been using drugs for a long time; everything in your life has fallen apart or been taken from you. Perhaps you have only been using for a relatively short period of time, but your addiction has taken hold of you and you teeter on the brink of losing yourself, your family, or perhaps your job. You know you have to stop but that thought may be overwhelming. The first step toward recovery is to get help.
What is Detoxification?
Drug detox refers to the process of purging the body of a substance that a patient has used to the point of addiction. Detoxification without medical assistance can be painful and dangerous. The physical manifestations of withdrawal can be intense, causing symptoms such as heart arrhythmia, tremors, sweating, vomiting, or hallucinations. Other psychological conditions such as suicidal thoughts, paranoia, or severe anxiety may accompany withdrawal symptoms as well. To lessen these side effects, medical treatment should be sought. Detox is best administered in a medical-based drug detox facility.
Should You Risk Detoxing by Yourself?
Drug use alters chemical balances and brain functions. With some drugs, this alteration occurs quickly, with others it takes a bit longer. Duration and frequency of use must be considered when one stops ingesting drugs. The body’s response to the instantaneous removal of a drug can be severe. If you are, by yourself, detoxing, you may be placing your life at great risk. It is never advisable to go through detox on your own. Most times, it is best for the patient’s health and psychological well-being to be in a closely monitored detox facility staffed by doctors and nurses who can track and manage withdrawal symptoms and medical and psychological complications.

Lakeview Health Systems does not believe in ultra rapid-detox, or detox that is not followed up with chemical dependency treatment. The process does nothing to alleviate drug addiction, nor does it provide the patient with tools to avoid repeated drug use. There are no “quick fixes” to drug addiction, detox, or addiction treatment. It is our belief that detox must be followed by addiction treatment, relapse prevention, and aftercare if the addict is to maintain abstinence and live a sober life.
Drug Detox Center
Drug detoxification at our drug rehabilitation facility provides a patient with the best possible care. Lakeview Health Systems believes in a medical model of substance abuse treatment. We have a staff of board certified doctors, psychiatric and addiction trained nurses, clinicians, and therapists that work as a multidisciplinary team to provide the most comprehensive care possible in our Florida-based drug detox and inpatient treatment center. Patients are closely monitored, allowing doctors to minimize withdrawal systems and prepare patients for substance abuse treatment. Detox alone will not stop drug use or addiction behaviors.
Below is a list of some of the most common addictions we treat in our detox facility. Because we have a medically staffed facility and our detox center has a state-of-the-art medical unit, we can handle any type of addiction detox or co-occurring disorder. Dual diagnosis disorders are more easily identified in such a closely monitored medical detox facility. Our safe and secure environment, coupled with a compassionate, caring staff and individualized treatment plans, help make recovery possible.
