Freedom Rings at Lakeview Health Systems is a specialized substance abuse program that specifically addresses the needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (GLBTQ) community.

Gay and lesbian individuals often have unique feelings that can lead to drug or alcohol abuse, including:

  • Feelings of shame or embarrassment
  • Not feeling comfortable in your own skin
  • Not feeling accepted by friends or family

We provide you with a safe, non-judgmental environment to address these issues and work through them on your way to recovery. We offer:

  • A gay-and lesbian-friendly staff
  • A sympathetic community of your peers
  • Individualized therapy
  • Therapy that focuses on GLBTQ issues
  • A program to help your family
  • Aftercare planning specific to the gay and lesbian community

Therapy That Focuses on Your Issues

You’ll discuss a wide range of issues while in treatment, including ones that are specific to those that happen to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or questioning, including:

  • Cultural substance abuse
  • The coming out process
  • Spirituality and religious issues
  • Family issues
  • Integration
  • Risk-taking behaviors, like promiscuity

Our staff’s training and personal experience with the GLBTQ community enable them to build deep, meaningful relationships with an unmatched level of understanding.

An Affirming, Safe Environment

It’s important that you recover in a safe and comfortable environment where you can be yourself. You should be at ease discussing any sexual or relationship issues with staff or in groups. Our entire staff undergoes extensive sensitivity training and everyone is gay-and lesbian-friendly.

Helping You and Your Family Recover

Part of our Freedom Rings track includes a 4-day family recovery program at our facility to help heal the family system. Our family therapist will work with you and your family to discuss personal boundaries, past traumas, gay and lesbian acceptance, and other issues, so everyone can work towards recovery.
