LSD (Acid) is classified as a hallucinogenic and dissociative drug and is considered one of the most potent mood-altering chemicals available. It is derived from a fungus that grows on a variety of grains such as wheat and rye.
This drug is most often ingested in liquid, tablet, or capsule form. It is also found added to “absorbent paper” that is then divided into pieces known as doses. The hallucinogenic properties of LSD create long lasting “trips” lasting up to 12 hours in duration.
Unfortunately, hallucinogenic drugs such as LSD can create unstable intense perceptional distortions in rapid succession—both visual and delusional. “Flashbacks” from “trips” that happened in the past can harass LSD users days, weeks, months, or even years later. In severe reactions, flashbacks can be persistent causing extreme psychological distress. The negative implications of using LSD are illustrated by the number of reported suicides that occur. Individuals that frequently use LSD often combine their use with alcohol, opiates, and mushrooms.
Signs and Symptoms of Addiction
Complications from Chronic LSD Use
Because chronic LSD users are generally cross-addicted, the safest detoxification is within a detox facility.
