The Family and Addiction Treatment
The Family Recovery Program is pivotal to the effectiveness of successful addiction treatment and the recovery process. The staff at Lakeview understand that the disease of addiction and alcoholism is a family illness and that all members of the family and significant others have been directly effected. In many cases, the behaviors and feelings expressed over the years have created fertile ground for the birth of a dysfunctional family system or enabled one to continue to flourish.
Individuals suffering from drug abuse, prescription drug addiction or alcohol abuse are rarely aware how their actions affect people around them. In most cases, they are too concerned with their drug addiction to even care. They have no idea what it means to establish healthy boundaries, much less effectively support those choices. In some cases, a person may suffer from childhood traumas (emotional, sexual or physical) that have shaped their belief systems in ways still unfamiliar to them.
Our Family Recovery Program Compliments Our Addiction Treatment Program
During this powerful four day recovery experience at our addiction treatment program, family members along with their loved one will explore the development of their family system. Core beliefs that function as the basis for decisions and behaviors will be challenged by our licensed family therapist. We will discuss the need for personal boundaries and how to communicate and cope with feelings when those boundaries are violated. Lastly, everyone will identify their role within the family (wounded child, hero, lost child or scapegoat) and how that role manifests itself in their relationships.Whether addressing codependency, learning to identify toxic from non toxic relationships, or resolving past traumas, the goal of the Family Recovery Program is to assist families in becoming healthy individuals.
Relapse Prevention, Intervention and Our Family Recovery Program
Prior to attending our Family Program parents and significant others of those in our drug rehab program felt “powerless” over what to do when drug abuse or alcohol abuse reared their ugly head. In far too many cases, decisions were based upon guilt, fear or anger instead of understanding drug addiction and alcoholism and knowing what steps to take. During the Family Program family members will be educated as part of the relapse prevention program. You will be educated as to the signs and symptoms relating to relapse and what actions may prove helpful. In the case where relapse does occur, we will provide you with the information relating to the intervention process. We do not expect family members to be addiction treatment professionals. You can always call staff associated with the relapse prevention program, family program or even the alumni coordinator if you require our assistance. You do not have to wait for relapse to occur to call our addiction treatment center for help. We can be reached toll free at 1-866-657-4357.
