Event Summary

Drs. Ferdinand Formoso and John Muenz will each present at the July lecture series.

Dr. Formoso will provide insight about treating pain and addiction patients during his “What Do Pain Physicians Do?” lectures. He’ll cover the complexities of pain treatment, discuss the use of a multidisciplinary approach, injection therapies, and medication management.

Dr. Muenz will present “Addiction in the Older Patient.” New research and literature has substantiated that addiction in the older patient is a serious medical and cultural issue. The addiction might be narcotics, alcohol, process addiction or a combination. He’ll discuss the consequences of such addictions that include decreased functional abilities, decreased cognitive abilities, and a high risk of medical and social complications.

About the presenter

John Muenz, MD & Ferdinand Formoso, DO

John Muenz, MD

John Muenz, MD is a board certified Coastal Spine and Pain Center physician with experience in physical medicine and rehabilitation, pain management and addiction management. Dr. Muenz has served patients for more than 20 years in private practice as well as supervising primary care providers for Baptist Health System, St. Vincent’s HealthCare System and other independent family practitioners.

Dr. Muenz is board certified and fellowship-trained with the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Board of Addiction Medicine and the American Board of Family Practice. He received his medical degree from the University of Louisville, School of Medicine and completed his residency as chief resident at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga Unit of College of Medicine. Dr. Muenz is affiliated with the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Academy of Family Practice.

He enjoys cooking, gardening, reading, travel and shell collecting and is committed to service and contribution to his community.

Ferdinand Formoso, DO

Ferdinand Formoso, DO is a board-certified interventional pain medicine specialist as well as a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist. After completing his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Buffalo in 1996, he earned his doctorate degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2001. Dr. Formoso was chief resident for the Temple University/Moss Rehab pain management and rehabilitation residency program in Philadelphia. Under Temple’s Program Director Dr. Frank Falco, a past President of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, he completed his fellowship in interventional pain medicine. Dr. Formoso is a founder of Coastal Spine and Pain Center and serves acute and chronic pain and rehabilitation patients in Jacksonville.
