Substance Use Disorders: An Overview

Are you new to or need a refresher on substance use disorder treatment? Are you curious about the fundamentals around identifying SUD? This webinar is for you! During this one hour presentation, Deborah Graves Feigel, PA-C will begin by briefly defining substance use disorder and describing screening tools for evaluating substance use disorder. She’ll also discuss how to identify substances of abuse including: signs and symptoms of abuse, withdrawal, and overdose. Lastly, you’ll be provided with an overview of the DSM–5 criteria for substance use disorder and the six (6) dimensions of the ASAM multidimensional assessment model.

  • Define Substance Use Disorder
  • Understand the Disease Model of Addiction
  • Identify Tools for Evaluating Substance Use Disorder
  • Identify Substances of Abuse Including
    • Signs and Symptoms of Abuse, Withdrawal, and Overdose

About the presenter

Deborah Graves Feigel, PA-C

Certified Physician Assistant

Deborah Graves Feigel is a certified physician assistant at Lakeview Health in Jacksonville, Florida. A graduate of the University of Florida she began her career at the Mayo Clinic Florida specializing in general, vascular and plastic surgery. Deborah transitioned to working in the Multidisciplinary Breast Clinic at Mayo Comprehensive Cancer Center and Department of General Surgery where she co-developed and was the primary clinician for the Breast Cancer Survivorship Program at Mayo Clinic Florida.

In 2011, she became interested in addiction when she pursued a career in the field. She has a passionate interest in the treatment and recovery from substance use disorders. Among her many interests in the field are the neurobiology of addiction and the education of patients about their disease. Deborah has presented at conferences and events across the country and within the local Jacksonville community on the topic of addiction. She is certified by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants.
