  • Understand epidemiology of co-occurring psychiatric disorders and addiction
  • Explain key co-occurring illnesses

  • Highlight future treatments

Rise in Recovery

By: Kimberley Berlin, LCSW, CSAC, SAP, MAC, CCTP Overview: There are many paths to recovery – the treatment field can recognize that introducing a comprehensive approach using evidence-based spiritual practices will enhance the journey of healing.  Guiding clients to a spiritual path through these practices deepens a purpose-driven life, connection, and personal insight. This presentation covers the neuroscience of addiction and discusses the new field of neuroscience of spirituality.  Interactive audience participation in the techniques of breath (pranayama), mindfulness (meditation) and mantra (chanting) will be included. Learning Objectives: Participants will walk away being able to:

  • Gain basic knowledge of how neuroscience research supports spiritual approaches to addiction treatment
  • Understand how “spirituality” is defined and can be applied to secular persons in recovery
  • Learn basic spiritual techniques that can improve the quality and duration of recovery
