In alcohol and substance abuse treatment, detoxification is the process of removing dangerous by-products of drugs, alcohol, or other substances of abuse from the body, monitoring acute and sometimes dangerous withdrawal symptoms, and preparing the mind and body for addiction treatment.

Depending on how much and how long you've been using, the acute stages of withdrawal can last anywhere from three to ten days. Symptoms of withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs of abuse can include:
Our New Beginnings program, which serves as both an orientation to Lakeview and the bridge between detox and treatment. While your body restores balance in the absence of alcohol and drugs, you meet with your New Beginnings therapist to lay the groundwork for treatment and recovery. At the same time, your case manager begins to formulate an initial individualized recovery plan, and our medical team conducts a detailed biopsychosocial assessment to create a complete picture of your current state of physical, emotional, and social well-being. Clinicians interview your family, and staff addresses and resolves logistics around issues such as court dates, Family and Medical Leave Act benefits, and any other necessary details.
You focus on getting through detox and beginning treatment – we handle everything else.
Many people develop alcohol and substance use disorders as coping mechanisms to handle the pain and suffering related to past trauma or self-manage the symptoms of mental health disorders – often without realizing that's what they're doing. Alcohol and drugs mask the symptoms, and part of the alcohol and drug detox process involves establishing a physical and emotional baseline upon which you can build a new, sober life. It may take a week or two, but once you're alcohol and substance-free, you and your recovery team can identify the root causes of your addiction problems and address them with our special combination of individual therapy, group therapy, and integrative strategies to heal your mind, body, and spirit.
We want you to achieve sustainable sobriety, and we want you to do it in a way that doesn't put your health at risk. That's why we offer something unique: a fully accredited, licensed, professionally staffed, medically monitored detox facility right here on our Jacksonville campus. We provide custom designed, physician-approved detox procedures supervised around the clock by medical professionals dedicated to your recovery. Our doctors and nurses provide immediate treatment in case problems arise, administer therapies and medications to alleviate severe withdrawal symptoms, and collaborate with therapists to form the first stages of your long-term, personalized recovery plan.
