Don’t Give Up on Recovery from Addiction
In twelve step fellowships such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous there is a saying that goes, “Don’t leave before the miracle happens”. No one ever said that recovering from addiction is easy. If it were more people would be able to gain long-term sobriety. When fighting with the disease of addiction the important thing is to never give up. For individuals who do relapse it is important that they know they are not alone and that they are definitely not the first to experience a relapse. Many who have been able to achieve long term sobriety relapsed before they were able to “really” get sober.
Some people have to go to addiction treatment more than once before getting sober. It is important to not give up if success is not found on the first go around. One never knows what therapist or other person they may encounter that will say something that whelp their sobriety click.
No matter what you do in your recovery and what you experience I urge you not to give up!! No matter how bad you think it is things can always get better. If you go to a twelve step meeting you will hear plenty of people shares who were not able to get sober on their first try but now have a life beyond their wildest dreams. Getting sober from drug and alcohol abuse is a journey and there are going to be setbacks. It’s up to the individual whether or not they are going to let their setbacks keep them down or if they are going to get up, brush themselves off and try again.
