Lakeview Health has promoted Dr. Adrian Blotner to Director of Psychiatry and Pain Recovery

Dr. Blotner previously served as campus psychiatrist

Jacksonville, FL, March 5, 2018 – Lakeview Health has promoted Adrian Blotner, M.D., FAPA to Director of Psychiatry and Pain Recovery. Dr. Blotner is board certified in both psychiatry and pain medicine. He specializes in the management of chronic pain, mood, anxiety, and sleep disorders in those who are recovering from substance use disorders. He led the team at Lakeview Health that developed a new therapeutic service for people suffering from chronic pain and addiction. “Dr. Blotner has been at the forefront of the development and implementation of our pain recovery services,” said Philip Hemphill, Chief Clinical Officer of Lakeview Health. “Our program has been successful in helping people find healthy and effective solutions for their chronic pain while they are recovering from substance use disorders. I am confident Dr. Blotner will thrive in this new position and we continue to provide the very best care for those suffering from addiction, chronic pain, and mental health disorders.” Blotner will continue to oversee the multidisciplinary pain recovery services that emphasize specific therapeutic techniques to treat the chronic pain, stress, anxiety, mood, sleep and addiction. Lakeview Health’s clinical team uses safe, non-habit-forming medications to treat the nerves that transmit the pain and help each patient to develop an individualized healthy physical activity plan. “We help patients to improve their biological and emotional health, as well as improving their physical mobility in a way that does not increase their chronic pain,” said Blotner. “Patients also participate in the Pain Recovery process group twice a week where we get to thoroughly explore each patient’s chronic pain and addiction to help identify core issues, patterns and themes. We provide a pain education curriculum along with skills development for meditation, mindfulness and breathing techniques.” Blotner said he is excited to take on this new role as Director of Psychiatry and Pain Recovery. Blotner joined Lakeview Health in September of 2016 as the campus psychiatrist for patients at the Rose and Star, Lakeview Health’s gender-responsive treatment programs. He previously served as an associate professor of psychiatry and as director of the pain medicine program in the psychiatry department at University of Florida Health. He also worked as medical director for the chronic pain program at JoEllen Smith Hospital in New Orleans, chairman of the department of psychiatry at East Jefferson General Hospital in Louisiana and as a faculty member at the University of Tennessee Department of Psychiatry in Memphis. Blotner earned his bachelor’s degree in physiological psychology from Tulane University, completed a Harvard Medical School externship at Massachusetts General Hospital and earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University. He completed his residency and a fellowship in psychiatry at Oschner Clinic and Hospital in New Orleans. Blotner is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and has been a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the American Medical Association and the American Pain Society.
